Plant Care Guide

The following Care Guides are merely guides, each plant has its own preferred conditions, and we would need to publish an encyclopaedia to cover all the plants we sell. Keep in mind, its better to learn to communicate with your plants than to try to learn the individual care for every species. Plants will show signs based on their needs. If you learn this language, you can speak to any plant. A good example, plants begin to wilt when they need water. This is a good way to plan your watering schedule. Keep in mind, overwatering results in the same symptoms of underwatering and checking the soil is necessary to differentiate.

We have grouped plants with similar needs to ease your mind into plant care. It’s a lot easier than it seems and with our expert in-store advice and these basic care guide – you will be on your way to being the best plant parent you can be.

Some Constants:

Most indoor plants will prefer warmer temperatures. The ideal is 25-28 degrees. this combined with a good amount of light will create healthy and happy plants. Most plants will handle a more realistic temperature range and will grow perfectly fine in your average home. This is just the optimal temperature for maximum growth.

12 hours is the ideal period of light for most indoor plants, anything more is wasteful. Keep in mind, plants need a dark period of time to ‘sleep.’ During the dark phase important metabolic processes take place.

Most indoor plants prefer a nutritious and well-draining soil. Why do we say that? In our experience, the biggest mistake plant parents make is… Overwatering. A well-draining soil helps alleviate this issue.
